Highlight during NutrEvent, the second edition of the NutriAwards contest attracted the most innovative projects in Food, Nutrition and Health, from candidates reflecting the variety of participants’ profiles in NutrEvent: prestigious groups, start-ups or universities.
The presentation session of the NutriAwards took place during NutrEvent, June 19th at 5:00 pm in the presence of both partners of the prices, Grégory Dubourg from NutriKéo and Jérôme Samson from Seventure Partners, the Members of the Steering Committee and Etienne Vervaecke, General Commissioner of the event and General Manager of Eurasanté.
This dedicated session gave to the participant the opportunity to discover the six candidate projects in the product innovation category and the four candidate projects in the process innovation category. The two winners were elected by a mix of all NutrEvent participants’ votes and the jury evaluation.
The NutriKéo Award of the product innovation went to Jeroen Willemsen from the Dutch start-up OJAH for its product Plenti®. Ojah b.v. produces ‘4G meat substitutes’. In addition to legumes (1G), tofu (2G), vegetarian balls & burgers (3G), this next generation of meat substitutes truly mimics the look, texture, taste and versatility of meat. Ojah makes it easier for meat lovers to make their contribution to a more sustainable planet. Over 40 Plenti®-based products are currently sold in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and South Africa. Ojah was rewarded in 2012 as the Most Innovative SME of the Netherlands.
“With our next generation of plant-based meat substitutes, we aim to contribute to a more sustainable society. The enourmous impact our diet has on sustability, in terms of health and environment, is not yet fully acknowledged. NutriAward does take this impact into consideration, reason for us to nominate for the award. This is the first international award we have won. We hope this helps us to reach our ambition: making Plenti® available world-wide for vegetarians and meat-lovers.” Jeroen WILLEMSEN, Commercial Director, OJAH, NL
The Seventure Partners Awards of the process innovation went to Alexandre Terrien from WikiCells for its product WikiPearl. Inspired by the magic of the skin of the grape, WikiPearl wraps ice cream, yogurt, juices cocktails and other foods with nutritious edible skins made of natural ingredients (e.g. peanuts, strawberries, coconut and more) to provide a zero-waste food that reconciles consumption with sustainability and responsibility with pleasure.
“NutriAwards was the occasion for us to be recognized by the professionals of the Nutrition and Health sector. The particularity of the Wiki technology is that it impacts several fields: packaging obviously, but also health and nutrition. We wanted to know what these industries thought about it. NutriAward will – and already has brought us privileged contacts in the Nutrition and Health industries, allowing us to develop our products with the best ingredients, therefore ensuring the best quality.” Alexandre TERRIEN, Business Developer, WIKICELL, FR
Each prize rewarded the winning projects with 20 hours of consulting offered by the associated partners.
