Kim Pohlman is a food industry veteran by profession, and a “foodie” by nature.  She is a principal of Wellables, a Portland, OR based consulting firm that manages strategic marketing projects for the food dietary supplement industry.  Her projects include:

  • Ingredient and technology market analyses for major investment firms, and ingredient and food companies
  • Gap analysis of a product line and subsequent launching of successful products for a direct marketing firm, both dietary supplements and functional food bars
  • Brand management of consumer packaged goods, including creating a new category in sports nutrition
  • Establishing a sustainability plan for a major prepared foods supplier

Prior to Wellables, Kim worked for major ingredient companies in variety of capacities, including R&D, sales and marketing, business development, and general management.  As Director of Nutritional Ingredients for the McNeil division of Johnson and Johnson, she managed the joint venture between Neose Technologies and Johnson and Johnson.  The unit developed a carbohydrate synthesis technology into a platform of functional food products oriented towards health and wellness, such as  Probiotica TM with FOS, and Viactiv calcium chews.  She was also Director of Marketing for Unigen, focused on marketing a pipeline of plant extracts screened as therapeutic agents for the pharmaceutical and dietary supplement market.

Kim received her BS in Soil Chemistry from University of Florida, and her MBA from Benedictine University.  She was Secretary of the Sales and Marketing Division of the Institute of Food Technologists from 2002-2008 and continues to be an active volunteer.  She can be found contentedly munching all types at food, at any given time of the day, while reading about food, dietary supplements, health, and wellness.
